Wheelchairs
Can I bring my own wheelchair?
bmibaby will permit the carriage of two pieces of mobility
equipment, including lightweight, foldable, manual wheelchairs and
electric mobility aids, per passenger, which will be carried free
of charge. All procedures and criteria must be met in order for the
carriage of the wheelchair or mobility aid to be accepted.
Failure to meet the criteria below will result in the carriage of
the wheelchair or mobility aid being refused. The following
procedures and criteria include the following:
• All requests should be advised to bmibaby as soon as
possible with a minimum of 48 hours notice.
• bmibaby will only accept dry cell, non-spillable
batteries
• The battery must remain upright and securely attached to the
body of the wheelchair or scooter. It is the responsibility of the
passenger or carer to ensure that the power to the motor is
disconnected / isolated to prevent inadvertent operation. This may
be as simple as removing the key or turning a deactivation
switch/lever. If it is not possible to prevent inadvertent
operation by either of the above methods, the battery must be
removed and the terminals insulated against accidental short
circuit. The battery must then be securely attached to the mobility
device. bmibaby will not permit the carriage of the mobility or
wheelchair if this procedure is not followed.
• bmibaby will not be responsible for any claims regarding
delay, loss or damage to the mobility aid. We strongly recommend
that the passenger takes out adequate insurance.
• Passengers who are using the on-line check in facility that
need assistance are required to present themselves to the service
provider upon arrival at the airport.
